Stalking Tactics

Phone calls, voice messages, text messages, hang-ups, faxes


Online contact, email, social media, gaming messages, contact through message boards or feedback sections of websites


Postal mail, packages, gifts, flowers (including strange and dangerous items meant to frighten or harm the victim)


Threatening physical harm


Insulting and manipulating


Spying, following, watching


Using devices such as GPS to track car, bugs to monitor conversations, cameras, or keystroke capture software 


Showing up at the victim's work, home, dates, school, shopping, movies with friends


Breaking into or sneaking into the victim's home or car (for variety of purposes)


Damaging property


Psychological Effects

Victims may be:

  • fearful
  • concerned for safety
  • experiencing PTSD symptoms
  • injured and in need of medical care
  • in need of counseling, housing support, victim's advocate, legal aid, and more
  • behind with work, bills, rent, or school due to IPV and need help resolving
  • suffering from health issues including pregnancy or an STD

Health Problems

Victims of IPV suffer higher than average prevalence of several diseases:

Asthma, IBS, frequent headaches, chronic pain, difficulty sleeping, activity limitations, poor physical health, and poor mental health


(men)

Asthma, frequent headaches, chronic pain, difficulty sleeping, activity limitations, poor physical health, and poor mental health
